Retired professor Don Davis and his Lehigh Valley math team won the national championship again this year in the American Regions Math League and received the first-place award in the Princeton contest for the third straight year. Read the full story on the Morning Call. 

Rachel Sholder landed on Lehigh University's list of 10 Under 10 - alumni who've made waves in their fields, earned top accolades, and left a global mark, all within just a decade of graduating. 

Sholder earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Master of Science in Statistics from Lehigh University. She currently works as a Systems Analyst at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. 

Applied mathematics PhD student Tian Qin participated in the Quant Championships. The International Quant Championship is a three-stage, team-based competition running from March to September 2024. Tian Qin formed a team with him as the single member. Tian did very well in the Stage 1 (University Round) and moved up to Stage 2 (National/Regional Round)  which comprises the virtual qualifying and then the final presentation. Tian got the National 3rd Place in Stage 2, which is really impressive.

The International Quant Championships bring together students, academics and professionals from all over the world to apply their quantitative skills at the intersection of data and financial markets. Designed and hosted by WorldQuant, teams are tasked with developing and backtesting predictive mathematical models—and this year’s teams had access to robust fields of data and tools, performance dashboards and value-add measures. It is a unique and prestigious opportunity to engage with some of the world’s top talent and for students to demonstrate their own quantitative abilities.
