Detecting Motivic Cohomology via Geometric Measure Theory
Prof. Paulo Lima-Filho, Texas A&M University
Abstract: This talk will explore connections between geometric measure theory (GMT), motivic cohomology, and algebraic K-theory, highlighting how GMT tools can be used to address questions in algebraic geometry and topology. We will present a panoramic overview of some of these interactions, emphasizing the underlying geometric intuition and illustrating their potential through concrete examples. We will conclude the talk with new examples of non-torsion classes in Higher Chow groups and some natural open questions arising from these developments. The talk is intended for a broad mathematical audience; no prior familiarity with these subjects will be assumed, and the main concepts will be introduced intuitively.
