The Putnam is a yearly competition for undergraduate students — organized by the MAA — that takes place in early December in the form of an exam. The exam is notoriously difficult, and scoring a single point (out of the 120 available points) is a feat in itself.
Though it is not required to be a math major, given the difficulty of the exam, it is recommended that any student taking the exam have some experience in upper-level mathematics courses (at least MATH 163). With that said, any student familiar with calculus will likely be able to attempt at least one of the problems, so such students are welcome if interested.
The exam will take place on Saturday, December 7 from 10am to 6pm, with a two-hour break from 1pm to 3pm in CU 218. Students who have registered should arrive a few minutes before the start so they can receive their materials.
Registration is free and is open until December 7. We recommend students register earlier than this if they plan to take part.
