The Graduate Student Interdisciplinary Mathematics Seminar (GSIMS)/Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) spreads the love of mathematics by hosting research talks for graduate students, and increasing connections between graduate students, professors, and undergraduates. We aim to help the newer generation of mathematicians develop and share ideas and build confidence and character as they do. We believe every person can do mathematics at the highest of levels, and provide a platform to help people attain their best.
Our Tradition of Excellence
Since its inception, our weekly Graduate Student Colloquium has provided a supportive environment for students to share their passion for mathematics. This forum allows graduate students to:
- Present Research: Practice dissertation defenses or share progress on original research.
- Explore New Topics: Introduce interesting mathematical concepts outside the standard curriculum.
- Foster Collaboration: Since 2009, we have expanded our reach, regularly welcoming guest speakers—both students and faculty—from neighboring institutions to foster a broader mathematical dialogue.
Professional Development & Community
Beyond the blackboard, GSIMS and AWM are dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community within the department. By hosting regular social events alongside our seminar series, we strive to build a diverse, inclusive, and supportive environment where students, faculty, and staff can connect outside of the classroom.
Get Involved
We are always looking for fresh perspectives. Whether you are a Lehigh student or a visitor from another university, we invite you to contribute to our seminar series.
- Submit a Talk: Ready to share your work? Submit an abstract via our Online Webform.
- Propose an Event: Have an idea for a workshop or social? Reach out to any member of the GSIMS/AWM Leadership Team.
